It’s been a surprisingly busy weekend with lots going on including my Mom running her first 5K!!
My mom has been working hard to loose some weight, get fit and just become healthier overall. After several months of doing some basic strength training and cardio at the local gym, she decided to give a 5K a try. I’d like to think I had something to do with it! Lol
The morning of the race came and it was HOT, I mean CRAZY HOT. The temp was 87 and humidity was at 66%……..eek! Mom was quite anxious regarding the heat, but we had our game plan and my ‘job’ was to make sure she stuck to it!! 🙂
The heat and humidity were added obstacles, it was rough. We took some walk breaks and I was glad I had brought some water for us. It was tough day for a first time runner, that’s for sure. I had to be tough and “bossy” as my mom called it 🙂 to keep pushing her through to the finish.
My mom toughed it out though! She finished and didn’t die, despite the claims she made during the run! 🙂 I am really super proud of her and her accomplishment. She may never do another 5K again but as one of my running friends pointed out, she finished with a Personal Best! ;-P
Running isn’t for everyone. I know there are many people out there that call us runners, crazy, nuts or insane, so what?! What is important is that you find something you love, something that makes you happy, feel fulfilled and brings you joy! So, if my mom decides to keep running and start training for her next race….awesome!! If she decides she wants to stick with cycling and strength training at the gym? Great! As long as it makes her happy and feel good about herself! At least I got to be there with her the day she got her Personal Best ;-P
