Well, now that we are officially one month into the new year, it’s time to confirm plans for the year…..races, goals, new PRs to break and make! 🙂 What do you have on the calendar for this year? Any firsts planned yet or are you looking for a new challenge? I’d love to hear what you all have planned for 2017.
I’ve still got some decisions to make, but my 2017 race calendar is starting to fill up and I love it!! 🙂 My first race of the year will actually be this coming weekend, Cupids Chase 5K. This will be my first time racing a 5K in about a year! I have been sticking to the longer distances in the last several months, so I’m curious to see where my pace is at for such a short distance. I can definitely see an improvement in my overall pace (avg of 9:30/mile last year to avg of 8:35/mile this year) thanks to the awesome training programs at Fleet Feet Sports Mechanicsburg!! Having a different approach to my running and training has been such a huge help in making progress in my training, speed, and pacing. 🙂
The month of March will bring some fun races as well. The first weekend, I will be running the Naked Bavarian trail race. There are two distances, 20 miles or 40 miles. I opted for the 20 mile race to give myself a ‘check’ of where I’m at in training for my big race in June. What’s that?! Patience, patience, I’ll get there! 😉 The other race I will be doing in March is the Lucky Charm 10K here in Harrisburg. I am really looking forward to running this one. I wasn’t able to run it last year, but many of my friends did and said it was a lot of fun. Another super cool aspect of this race is the fact that proceeds go to one of my favorite programs, Girls on the Run!! 🙂 Woot woot! If you’ve never heard of Girls on the Run, you will definitely have to check them out. I plan to do a post on the program soon, as I am fundraising for our local chapter this year as a Solemate……so keep your eyes out! 😉
April and May will bring a couple more races for me, the Capital Area 10 miler and the Pittsburgh Half Marathon. The Pittsburgh Half Marathon is my birthday weekend and I’m looking forward to really having a great time!! One of the members of our local running group has recruited almost 80 runners to go to Pittsburgh and run either the half or the full!!! Way to go Jeff!! He loves all things Pittsburgh and has definitely been a driving force in getting as many of us as possible to experience the course at Pittsburgh…….I can’t wait!! 🙂
June comes next with some firsts and an insane level of excitement and anticipation on my part! 🙂 The first weekend in June, I have the opportunity to be a part of a 12 person team running the RAGNAR road race from Lancaster, Pa to Mount Pocono, Pa. This is something I have been wanting to do for some time. I am very excited to be a part of a great team of people and it is sure to be a memorable experience. 🙂 The end of June will be the race that is going to be my main focus/end goal for this first half of the year. I will be running the Eagle Up Ultra 24 hour ultra marathon. The basic goal/purpose of this race is to run as many miles as you can in a 24 hour period. There is no real pressure of a time cut off like most ultras, so it is nice to not have to worry about that. The course is shorter, so that adds some pros and cons to running it. I’m still thinking about what kind of approach I want to take towards running it. I’m not worried too much about that as I’ve got a few months to think about it! 😉
I’d love to hear from you all…..what races are running? What goals have you set for yourself for this year? Let me know! 🙂
