Lucky Charm 5K/10K

It only took me 3 years, but I finally got the opportunity to run the Lucky Charm 5K/10K race!! 🙂  The first year of the race, I had to work and was unable to run.  Last year, I had registered and planned to run the race, but my damn hip kept me from it!  >.<

The race had a start time of noon so that once everyone was done racing they would be downtown for the annual Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day parade! 🙂
We couldn’t have asked for better weather for race day.  It was slightly chilly in the morning, but by race time, the sun was out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky!

The atmosphere of the race is something of a block party.  It is a lot of fun looking around at all the runners decked out in their crazy, festive and green outfits.  The race started on 2nd Street in downtown Harrisburg.  The course then followed 2nd Street to State Street, past the capital and then north up Front Street.  The turn around for the 5K was along Front Street, while the 10K continued along Front Street and turned off to side streets.  The turn around for the 10K was at Italian Lake on the edge of the city.

I chose to run this race more for fun than time or anything like that.  Since, this is really my first month really back at running since December, and I didn’t want to push it.  It definitely was not my fastest 10K,  but it still felt good to be out there behind the start line again.  I finished with a time of 58:21.  This was a nice start to my 2018 racing season, here’s hoping it only gets better from here!!FB_IMG_1521826382353

After the race, everyone was invited to an after-party at Mulligan’s on 2nd street.  Each runner (of legal age 😉 ) got a free beer! Yay!  Ya can’t complain about that! 😉

Overall, it was  a really enjoyable race and fun atmosphere.  I would recommend giving it a try next year if you are looking for a fun and festive race in mid-March.  🙂
